Synopsis

A thriller can be even more terrifying than a horror if it’s done right, and East Winds 2017 are bringing you one from the Philippines that certainly is.

‘Bliss’ will follow you home from the cinema, a film that will linger in your memory. From concept and storyline, to actors’ performances and cinematography, it’s a powerful piece of cinematographic experience. It asks questions, raises issues, and pierces through the glamorous surface of the entertainment industry.

Jerrold Tarog, the Filipino director of the well known romantic drama ‘Sana Dati’ (2013) and biographical epic ‘Heneral Luna (2015), delved further into the psychic of human mind, and exchanged the emotional approach of his previous films to a more intellectual one.

Following the outcomes of a failed attempt by the famous actress Jane Ciego (Iza Calzado) to gain respect from the industry by producing her own film, she is badly injured on set. ‘Bliss’ shocks its audience with an unmediated and straightforward approach of traumas, their causes and the monster they give birth to.

Trapped in her own house, Jane has to cope with her own invalid new status, while facing the horrors nurse Lilibeth (Adrienne Vergara) brings upon her, and her own husband Carlo’s (TJ Trinidad) ignorance and impassibility.

A masterfully weaved psychosexual thriller, weaved around the industry’s flaws, personal tragedies, deranged minds, violence, abuse and complex characters brought to life by exceptional actors, ‘Bliss’ premiered at the Osaka Asian Film Festival in Japan, and is waiting for its European Premiere at the East Winds Film Festival 2017.
